On Demand Webinar until 3/31 for SCAN Members 1 CEU Free

International obesity expert presents free webinar for RDS

Feet, Forks and Fate is a new online learning resource FREE to SCAN members. Register and view on demand now to March 31, 2012.
The toll of a lifestyle at odds with health at both the public, and personal level is extreme, and unsustainable; neither the human nor economic costs can be borne much longer. These are the dark clouds that overshadow modern epidemiology and public health- but they harbor a silver lining. The promise of lifestyle to the human condition, were we to turn what we have long known about behavioral influences on health into routine action, is nothing less than luminous. To turn knowledge into power, and get to the prize- will require the cultivation of will, the paving of way- and the embrace of fundamental truths that rise above the din of competing claims and hucksterism. The master levers of medical destiny are in our hands- we need only grasp firmly and apply a moderate force, and we could move the whole world of modern public health to a better place. We might reasonably settle initially… for moving our own little corner of it.
Learning Objectives:
The learner will be able to:
  • Quantify the impact of lifestyle behaviors on the prevalence of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cancer
  • Describe the epigenetic influences of diet with reference to research data
  • Quantify the potential reductions in chronic disease rates achievable by lifestyle means
